INDEPENDENT TESTING - Craig Burks of Hometown Archery
- Fordland, MO
Here is the results from our testing. Method used
was cutting out a 4” circle and shooting over and over and
over. Products used were the Porta Butt, the Block, and the Black
Hole. Had 10 different shooters come in and for the week we tried
to put in at least 5 rounds a night shooting. Bows ranged from 312
to 240 fps and average KE was around 68, arrows ranged from 400
to around 740 grains. Our results are as follows:
Block started having field points come through at
shot number 137 and had a pass-thru at 151. Black Hole took 72 shots
before field point started showing and finally had a pass-thru around
shot number 120. The Porta Butt is doing fantastic, we have cycled
at least 2500 shots into Porta and have only saw an increase of
3 inches of penetration.
The Super and Big Butt’s are doing great also,
the Big Butt will probably be my favorite, and from the others reaction
I think this is the general consensus. Thanks for a great product,
have just started shooting broadheads this week, really looking
forward to getting a shot count with them. You have a great product
going, and I have really enjoyed shooting your targets.
Thanks for a great product,
HOOVER OUTDOORS MAGAZINE - Product Review
"The Big Butt model is manufactured in 36”
on up to 52” widths. Shot capacity for the Big Butt exceeds
100,000 shots from 300 fps bows with perfect arrow definition. Arrows
will not sag or pass through after thousands of shots in the bulls-eye
area and are easy to remove with a simple two-hand tug technique.
The Big Butt accepts broadheads, fieldpoints…all
arrows, all speeds. The compression molded straw with stem orientation
controlled acts as a friction brake to stop the highest kinetic
energy bow and arrow combination. All Pacific Bow Butts are biodegradable,
therefore environmentally friendly and help keep club ranges free
of synthetic debris. We have been using 310 fps & 350 fps crossbows
with a broadhead bolts up against the Big Butt and after 12 months
at 30 yards the bolt stops solid every time. We are still on the
first side and foresee the cost saving advantage Pacific Bow Butts
products offer. The Big Butt works great as a single vertical backstop
or several can be stacked horizontally on top of each other to create
a wall. This is one of the best target stop systems we have seen
Archery clubs, large and small alike, can benefit
extremely well in the low maintenance, high quality and cost savings
advantage offered by the Big Butt product. You can’t go wrong
with Pacific Bow Butts!"

"Archery Product Review: Pacific Bow
Butts, Porta Butt
Pacific Bow Butts is one of the new Target companies that are definately
worth looking at. Their targets are made of compression molded straw.
This acts as a friction brake to stop the highest kinetic energy
bows. The result is a long lasting system that can handle the fastest
bows. Pacific Bow Butts are also biodegradable and therefore environmentally
We recently tested the Porta Butt target. The targets
produced by Pacific Bow Butts are quality targets. This is not a
cheap light weight target. This "portable" target is 70
pounds and very durable. We shot arrows of every size imaginable
into the Porta Butt target. The arrows did not sag even after countless
arrows shot into the same area. One of my concerns was pass throughs.
So we purposely put the target at close range and continually hammered
a quarter size spot. We used many arrows with saunders combo pounds
which should produce a lot of penetration on this type of target.
We also switched between large diameter arrows and very small diameter
carbons. The result, not a single pass through. We didn't even get
one arrow up to the fletching.
Overall, we feel this is a very good target and
should last for many, many shots. Pacific Bow Butts estimates 50,000
shot or more and we believe it. They also state that using broadheads
on the target will make it last even longer. We did not test this
target with broadheads. The only issue we see is you can only shoot
two sides because of the bands that wrap the target and hold it
together. If the target lasts for 50,000 shots, then it isn't really
an issue is it. Whether you need a personal target or targets for
your range, Pacific Bow Butts are definitely worth a look."
